Working With Children

Working With Children

I have photographed a lot of kids over the years and I like to think that I do it pretty well.

One of the things that I have learned along the way is how to make kids feel relaxed.

Every age is different and every youngster is distinct. Some will come bursting in looking forward to seeing you are geared up for anything. Others might be slightly more retiring and need some coaxing.

I love to meet them at their level, chatting with them about what they like, what they have been doing and general getting them comfortable.

If it means playing about and acting the idiot I can definitely do that. If it means taking everything a little slower and quieter then I can do that too.

For the first portion of photographing family sessions is usually to photograph you and the children together. This helps them feel comfy and understand the process of what I am doing. They still have their Mum or Dad for moral support.

Pretty soon they will be happy and chilled and up for the rest of the solo pictures we can take.

My main goal is to help everyone relax and realize there is no real time limit. Kids will jump around, act silly, not sit still, etc. and I am perfectly ok with taking our time, just remember Mum and Dad this is not suppose to be a stressful moment.
