I’d like to take a moment to introduce Jane. She is a beautiful survivor! Both inside and out! She shared a bit of her journey with me as to how she come to this point in her life and what an inspiration she is… Here is a tidbit of her story.
“My body image has been a struggle for me as long as I can remember and I purposefully hung on to the negative comments I received from peers, authority figures, and bad relationships to validate why I didn’t like myself or how I looked. There are still some days I have a hard time looking in the mirror and not immediately list what I don’t like, but I’m finally starting to embrace not only how I look, but that my own body helped me survive (the bone, tissue, blood vessels, and muscle removed from my leg to help rebuild my jaw was my first successful surgeries after many before had failed). This year is the first time I’ve realized I don’t want to or need to always look perfect and what is more important is being happy, healthy, enjoying my life and my amazing significant other, friends and family”
Now a little further back story is this young woman was diagnosed with a tumor in her mouth when she was a pre-teen and has had to undergo several reconstructive surgeries to rebuild the inside of her left mouth/jaw where the golf ball sized tumor was removed. Honestly I didn’t see a single flaw when I met her and thought she was a wonderful brave woman and hoped with this session I could help her see herself as everyone who knows her does. Stunning!
She is has just graduated with her Masters in criminal justice as well so she is a busy busy busy gal, oh and let’s not forget she is an aspiring model and has recently booked some bridal shoots! My hat is off to you Jane!
When asked to list 5 things about herself here are a few of what Jane had to say :
-“Loyal/caring, adventurous, love to be goofy/make people smile, I wouldn’t be here today, figuratively and literally, if it wasn’t for my mom, survivor (not just surviving!), and I never give up!! (I promise I can count, just wanted to add a few extra things)”
